......and the excerpt from KC Star in Gay's post references "Joe" Vaughn as being in the original 10. (And from the roster, a Joe Vaughn was killed at Pea Ridge in '62)

The pistol provenance indicates Joseph Gibson Vaughan went by the nickname "Dan" while with Quantrill.

What would be the best way to verify this Joseph Gibson Vaughan was in fact the Dan Vaughn of Quantrill's band?

What documentation was developed by individual at a surrender?
