If a c.s.a. officer resigned 11.14.63 why wasn't he dropped from the rolls immediately- instead of a year + later ? (please reply your opinion back concerning this question). I agree, it would appear as though desertion or being A.W.O.L occured.
I still can not see how he could have survived repercussion until war's end living just South of New Iberia.Perhaps there were circumstances I'm not aware of.
The Fournet's, which I noticed have been reported different ways, on different reports also, mainly in relations to one another, and ranks. (maj., ltc.,col., lt.,...)
I located the obituary of Gabriel which states they were 4 brothers from St. Martinville,La.. Gabriel A., Valsin A.,Louis P., and J. B..
I believe Gabriel was the Ltc.,Valsin was the Maj., Louis was Lt. Co. D, and J.B.'s military services I'm unaware of.
On 6.10.63 Valsin resigned stating he suffered from gout. On 11.12.63 Maj. Gen. S.G. Burnbridge's scouts arrest Col. Fournet at St. Martinville. On 11.14.63, the date the reconsolidation occurs at Simmsport,. Maj. Gen. Franklin advises Burnbridge that Col. Fournet and Mr. Bereaud (union spelling) were to be sent to Maj. Cowan so he could show the papers if he had authority to ship sugar. Col. Fournet is resigning at Simmsport on this particular date, or so I believe,...I believe they meant to say Maj. Valsin...and Beraud, could they have meant to say Cpt. Desire Beraud,10th. La. Inf. Battn. Co. B, or, Achille Berard 10th. La. Inf. Battn. Co. E.All of these men mentioned here, Cpt. Joseph Hebert included, are from the 10th. La. Inf. Battn.. Perhaps these officers resigned ( or deserted ) prior to the 11.14.63 date. (V.A.Fournet did). Does anyone have proof positive of the reconsolidation orders and mainly who resigned at Simmsport, La. on 11.14.63 ?
