At Bisland his company lost, I believe, 35 of 43 members nearly all being rounded up, captured, the following day. I have to wonder if Gen. Sibley's improper handling of the retreat had anything to do with this, but, he being a Captain,... seems like everything got out of hand.Fournet rounded up what forces he could from the 10th La. Inf. Battn. and rejoined Gen. Taylor at Franklin,La. following Bisland and Irish Bend, but from Bisland onwards, no proof of Captain Joseph Hebert or his Company exist.Following reorganization at Simmesport,La. Nov. 13.1863, I found a document that stated Fournet and a few of his Officers resigned because they claimed there were too many officers in the newly formed commpany's, and they, the 10th La. Inf.Battn. were passed over for promotions. (the latter part being the 'hand me down' story I was led to believe), but after Simmesport,La., new officers fill the ranks. Confederate Cavalry units were constantly colmbing the area near La Petite Anse,La. where he and most of these officers lived, wouldn't it seem like the 2nd.,4th.,or 7th., La. Cav.would have rounded them up in the years following ? Perhaps there are circumstances I'm not aware of that would allowed these men to go on without repercussions being administered. Perhaps the Union winning the war saved them.Thank you buddy...later.
