You are right, General Gladden was wounded on April 6, 1862, and he was moved to General Beauregard's headquarters and continued to issue orders from a window in the house. He was doing much better, but a few days later, gangrene set in and he died. Dr. Samuel Choppin was the surgeon and I wanted to find his medical report and see what day he put down as the date of death. I had always thought it was on April 12, 1862, but at Shiloh, the Park Curator said it was on April 11, 1862, however, he also said that many historians came by his office and told him that the correct date was April 12, 1862 and that he needed to change it. He said he could not change it without seeing the date on the actual medical report of Dr. Choppin. Then, he said it would have to go before a board and they would decide if they wanted to correct it.

I called to Medical Records department at Tulane and they have Dr. Samuel Choppin's medical reports, but they do not know, nor will they look to see if the report is there.
They said they did not have enough staff to devote to looking up records.

The Park Curator said he thought General Gladden actually died on April 12, 1862, but could not change it due to a lot of Federal regulations. They cannot even put a picture of General Gladden in the show case until someone from the federal board approves it. They do have a sword there that was given to the General from S.C. when he came back from the Mexican War.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it very much.
