I have also seen some who had been named for an officer and the rank was part of the name; and this individual was never in any level of military. Such as my great great grandfather General Scott Hyso; and the auctioneer for the Osage oil leases in the '20s Colonel Elmer Elsworth Walters. Since my information on Will Rogers was unsourced to me I was unsure of it.
