Construction techniques changed as the war progressed. The first wool bunting issues are machine and hand sewn. The location of the machine sewing varies from issue to issue. By the end of the war at least some of the flags were entirely machine sewn including the stars, like the flag of the 14th Alabama Infantry in our collection (ADAH).
