Actually, the Reconstruction baring of the breast is not rubbish. In Duke University or the VA Historical Society (I forget which one) are the papers of one of the VA governors who had been a CS general in the war. Within them is a lot of correspondence about the baring of the breast by the Reconstruction government and restoring the COA back to how it was before then. It was considered an outrage at the time and this governor was very much in the thick of it.
