On Jan 28th, SC inaugruated her 150th Anniversary of the State Flag, and made it an official day of recognition via legislation. Utah followed closely with a new annual State Flag Day on March 9th. I felt the Virginia flag should also be included in such a celebration, and put together a brief proclamation for the occaision. Out of 7 localities, 2 legislators and the Governor himself, only York County agreed to sign it - http://shnv.blogspot.com/2011/05/york-county-perpetual-virginia-state.html .

Now it is an annual day in York. I would love to build on this there and hopefully make it statewide like SC and Utah, but for now concentrate on the small stuff 1st.

I seek help. My knowledge of the Va Flag is pretty much all in the proclamation. I just read in the thread below about a Continental unit with a similar flag. I have just been reminded today that the Reconstruction Govt in 1873 were the ones who made Virtus bare her breast, sheath her sword and plant the point of her spear in the dirt as retribution for the CW.

What books or materiel should I research for good info on the state flag history? I would like to compile a nice speech worthy essay to read for Next April 30th. Any errors in my proclamation? is the story of the reconstruction govt true? I live in Georgia, so it's a little hard to run down to Va Capitol archives.

I would also like to invite everyone to offer ideas on what a 'State Flag Day" should entail and request everyone's presence in York on 4/30/12
