Hi Frederick,

Just for generalization, for simple sewn flags as these, are what I call single/reverse, reading correctly on the obverse and reversed on the reverse.

Most suppliers of flags to the depot, usually had several flag makers and several artist, you might have one artist for some of the art in the canton and another one or two that would finish it and then another to work on the lettering. Just a theory on my part, the contract time on large flag orders would demand that several sewers & artist working on one flag, almost an assembly line sorta set up. This is obvious on several PA flag, either that or the artist had a few strong drinks while working on the flags. On special presentation flags most of the above can be thrown out.

No disrespect, but I think you are trying to make this harder then it is but have fun on your search, I’d like to read your results of the research.
