... Thanks for the additional... any help, constructive opinions and guidance is most appreciated.

If memory serves correctly the 71st PV would have still been known as the 1st California Regiment at Balls Bluff. I havent seen the one that was lost there. Since their latter flag had both notations painted on it "California Regiment" and above that "71st Reg PV"... Initial impression was thought they had just retained and used the same flag once Pa reclaimed the regiments in Bakers Cal Brigade... But then discovered that this particular flag wasnt issued until Nov 61.. a month after Balls Bluff.. Thought it odd they put the California Regiment on theirs... but none of the others in that same brigade that had also been initially designated Cal Regt's.. followed that habit...

Interesting information and good to know... Our reeanctment affiliate division is hosting the 150th Balls Bluff.. on the actual battlefield... little details are good to know... Our galvanized unit ID the 106th PV was then known as the 5th California Regiment (Bakers).. They were present but only afforded a distant spectator to the engagement since they could only watch from the opposite bank of the river... didnt have enough boats so never got across the river...
