Majority of the early war and militia flags Ive seen and/or examined are predominately blue back ground and sometimes white... Assuming this was a carry over of previous healdric habits of unit flags matching the branch/unit facings at the time... Infantry-blue... then in many states the Infantry facing later was white... before it returned to blue again...
In Virginia the long time theory/legend of its own war time state flag was the state seal placed upon the blue field said by many to represent the blue field of the Bonnie Blue Flag... however I question the earnest validity of that long standing opinion and echoed theory... Thinking it most likely came about as was the normal habits of the day... verses a direct link in kind to the BBF..
