Thanks, Bob; the Quantrill flag essay on the KSHS website is almost ten years old now, so it's been good to go back and look at it again with fresh eyes and with the comments made here.

Probably noted by all those interested is that Bloody Bill Anderson is supposed to have had a small Confederate flag on him when he was killed. This is mentioned in Castel and Goodrich's biography of Anderson; Ed Leslie's "The Devil Knows How to Ride;" and also Donald Hale's "They Called Him Bloody Bill." The original source is an unidentified officer's report recorded in the OR. None of these refer to it as a "Bible" flag. It has been a useful piece of information in quoting when questioned by people you doubt the plausibility of the "Quantrill flag" being carried by one of Quantrill's men. But then, those people are thinking of it being used as a company or regimental flag would be used.
