I'm not saying that small flags were never used as a bookmarks in Bibles, just that calling all small flags, Bible flags and claiming they were made for that purpose is incorrect. Saying that they were made for soldier's Bible is just sheer fabrication. I'm sure that small flags were placed in Bibles after the war as keepsakes. Bibles are traditionally used by the owners as a place to store important papers, photographs, newspaper articles etc. Our large Bibles at home were full of "important things" including my birth certificate, Dad's discharge papers, my mother's beautician's certification, various obituaries, photos of my sister's beauty contests and yep...Confederate money.
