Re: Chancellorsville flags
In Response To: Chancellorsville flags ()

Lee had Mclaws and Anderson's division with him. Barksdale's brigade was detached from Mclaws' division. That left Lee with 16,000 men. Not a single regiment was from North Carolina.

No North Carolina regiment went in the very last attack. Not a single one.

Now the 30th North Carolina could be a suspect that was the only North Carolina regiment on the extreme right (Not apart of the 16,000 men under General Lee). The 30th North Carolina attacked pretty much the same time period the 12th Georgia did. Brown's brigade had the 30th NC on the far right, then the 37th Va, 23rd Va, 10th Va, 3rd NC and the 1st NC on the far left. It appears that the 30th NC, 37th Va and 23rd Va attacked Bowman's brigade. (110th PA-84th PA-12th NH). The rest of Brown's brigade appears to have attacked the 20th Conn and 145th NY. To their left were Ramseur's brigade with the 14th NC to the left of the 1st NC. The 2nd NC was to the left and the 4th NC on the far left. It appears the 30th NC was detached and put on the extreme right of the line. Also the 2nd Va was detached and was to the right of the 30th NC. Behind them were Perry's Florida brigade, Posey's Mississippi brigade and Archer's mixed brigade. Perry and Posey attacked while Archer remained slight on the back right covering E.P. Alexander's artillery at Hazel Grove.

So if it was a North Carolina flag, only the 30th was in that area. The 1st, 3rd and 14th NC were not reported to have lost a flag, but maybe one of them did?

Have a good day, Gregg

Shawn
