Since you are interested in the 26th, here is some information on another great-great-grandfather in that unit. Alva Pittman was born in SC in 1835, probably Chester Co. A lot of people from that area moved to Bradley Co. He's in the 1850 census as "Alvey." By 1860 he was in Bradley Co., Hurricane Township. He would have been about 27 when he joined Co. D of the 26th. He was amongn those captured at Longview on March 29, 1864. He was eventually sent to Rock Island, IL prison camp. He took the oath on October 31, and joined the 3rd Regiment Infantry of US Volunteers, being placed in Company I. From what I can tell this company was eventually stationed between Caspar and South Pass in Wyoming along the Sweetwater River. He mustered out on November 29, 1865.

He is in the 1880 census of Whiteville, Dorsey Co., AR. No wife, but three children. No mention of the children he had in the1860 census. He married A. P. Horn (29) on January 26, 1881. They had at least two girls, Ruth and Emilia Adarene. He filed an invalid petition on February 11, 1891. He died November 8, 1891. On June 20, 1892, his widow filed a pension request. I don't know where he was buried, though the Wesley Cemetery has been suggested to me. Hope this helps.
