Thank you guys for replying. George I especially appreciate the details you sent. John Calvin Harper was picked up in Little Rock by his wife Nancy Bass Harper. She had traveled by wagon from Gurdon, Ar. with several children under the age of 10 and near Little Rock stayed up all night holding a butcher knife to ward off 'wild animals'. She had to wait to see John because he had pneumonia. I am wondering if she had to worry about troops on both sides as well as bushwhacker types.
You folks on this site and those that run the site are to be commended for a fine job.
