Re: Camden Trail - updated
Actually that is not completely correct. I have traveled as much of the original road bed as exists. I can say you are pretty much correct up to Jenkins Ferry. THe road travels through the bottoms and up across country through the Philadelphia community and across 270 and pretty much follows one of the main timber access roads through to Tull, on up to De Tonti trail area and curves northward to pass through the Reynolds property just east of Bryant and intersected Hwy 5 somewhere in the vicinity, if not exactly at Collegeville Baptist Church. I have traversed the route of Steele's army from Benton all the way to Camden and then the retreat route as well. THe Battle of Hurricane Creek just SE of Bryant was where the Camden Trail crossed Hurricane Cr. THere are mentions of stagecoaches turning on to the Camden Trail in the vicinity of the old Kirkpatrick place there just north of Wal Mart. It is stated that the house was used as a stage stop as well. So the old road comes up from Jenkins Ferry, and I have walked in the original roadbed in many places north of there allthe way to 270, Whittens Mill and on up through to Old Belfast with a gentleman who showed me the locals where they dug numerous artifacts back in the 60-70's.
