Since you have the Fowler rolls available for the 9th Alabama Regt., I'd be suspicious of any name that wasn't found on them. The only names not included on the Fowler rolls would be men who enlisted after Dec 31, 1864, and names spelled differently than the way they are in service files. I can think of another reason.

You could be seeing some misfiled 9th Alabama Battalion and 9th Alabama Cavalry records. Wouldn't be surprised to find a few stray records from other states. These may look like 'Ala' in cursive, such as Ga and La.
