Asher Herron’s one card record is found in the 10th Cavalry file under the index Ninth Cavalry, Wi-Y, Tenth Cavalry, A-L.
However, it appears that he served with Johnson’s 10th Kentucky Cavalry along with three other Herrons. See:
Herron (Hearin?), Adolphus Mayfield: Co.I
Herron, Asher: Co.K (Died in prison)
Herron, Elisha: Co.K
Herron, James H.: Co.K

For Company K, only one muster roll is found, that for the period Nov. & Dec., 1862 at Liberty, Tenn. If he did serve with Johnson’s 10th, then he must have enlisted sometime later.
In the records for Johnson’s 10th, we find:
Herron (Hearin?), Adolphus Mayfield: Co. I, enlisted August 13, 1862, captured at Cheshire, Ohio July 20, 1863, sent to Camp Douglas
Herron, Asher: Co. K No record
Herron, Elisha: Co. K Enlisted November 21, 1862
Herron, James H.: Co. K Enlisted September 16, 1862, captured at Burkesville,/Lebanon Ky, Aug. 28, 1863, sent to Camp Chase September 9, 1863, released from Rock Island Barracks May 16, 1865
It’s a mystery who he was serving with when captured at Murfreesboro, Tennessee on September 30, 1864.
……
Several modern day sources indicate that a portion of the regiment surrendered at Paducah,
Kentucky in 1865. However, this writer has found no substantive proof that the 10th Kentucky
Cavalry regiment existed as an organization after July, 1863. Those men not captured on
Morgan's Indiana-Ohio raid subsequently served in a variety of units including the 2d
(Dortch's) Battalion Kentucky Cavalry, the 8th Kentucky Mounted Infantry, the 15th
(Chenoweth's) Kentucky Cavalry, and the 16th (Sypert's) Kentucky Cavalry.
