Alan;

Thanks so much for the info. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip...unfortunately I didn't see your post until I returned. We plan to remedy that in the fall, though! I had a question for you or Mr. Martin, too. I suppose I could dig through all the tons of info on the internet and get an answer but....since you two are so well versed in all this history to begin with....I thought picking your brains might be quicker! lol I'm not sure how the National (therefore Federal) Parks work or even when the park in question was founded. Do they accept or solicit markers, funds or the like from the private sector? The reason for the question is this.....I noticed lots of beautiful, intricately carved marble markers on Yankee Avenue with Illinois and Ohio on them (a few Iowa and Michigan as well....but not nearly as many). There were no such animals on or near the conferate placements. Plain jane right down to the ground. They did have a beautiful bust of Garrett near the 20th Alabama and of course you had the states monuments (Mississippis' was LOVELY} but it just seemed one sided somehow. I don't know how to explain it any better than that. I have no idea when they were placed, of course and if private placements were allowed as the bust of the Colonel suggests....although I assume that was a special consideration for his sons? I don't know. I'm rambling here. Any info is, as always, appreciated.

Thanks,

Rachelle
