Here is Captain Taylor's account of his defense of Fort Henry:

His company consisted of 54 men; it should be easy enough to check the rolls of this command, but I don't have access to it. Failing that, we could see if the name appeared on a general index of Confederate soldiers. If there are multiples, it's easy enough to know which ones were at Fort Henry prior to its surrender.
If it was accepted, the pension application should include some reference to his unit. This was always confirmed in some way prior to any pension grant.
