CD jackets for artillery
Sun Jul 8 03:00:48 2001

Hi Folks,

While some CD type jackets were probably made with red trim
apparently most had blue trim. It appears that artillerymen in the western Confederate armies wore whatever they got.
There are 2 surviving photos of artillerymen from Lumsden's Alabama Battery. Both are wearing "CD" jackets. The trim on their jackets is very dark which suggets that it was blue. Interestingly one of the soldiers in question wears
pants of a darker hue than his jacket while the other soldier has pants that appear to match his jacket. Still,
there is a 3rd photo of a soldier from Lumsden's Battery
who wears what appears to be a medium gray jacket (not a "CD" type)with trim on his collar that is I think is red
due it not being not quite so dark as the other 2 photos.
Then there is a 4th photo of a soldier from this battery who was wearing a darker gray jacket with no trim on the collar. Obviously each photo was probably made at different
times.
By the way, if anybody's interested I've got an image of the red trimmed CD jacket that I downloaded from an old Civil War message board.
