Museum of the Confederacy's "Catalogue of Uniforms" describes Sgt. Lester's uniform in detail on page 40. There are two sets of trousers that belonged to him, the black trim being "made in accordance with Georgia state uniform regulations of 1861". The other pair is described as "cloth woven with cow hair. Very light brown color, sky blue piping down outer leg." These highly unusual pants were made with cloth woven by Lester's mother on their Americus GA plantation.

A few other examples exist in the museum's catalog of black facings on infantry jackets.
