Lumsdens Battery

It is true that much of the Army of Tennessee re-equipped and clothed themselves with captured Union uniforms and gear during the Perryville campaign (out of necessity).
However, I seriously doubt that Lumsden's gunners' captured Union coats lasted them all the way from October 1862 till 1865. For one thing, that battery served in most of the campaigns of the AOT for the rest of the war. The wear and tear of active campaigning alone would have meant those coats would have worn out and been replaced as well as the fact that it would have been dangerous for a C.S. battery to be wearing Union uniforms during the major (and often confused)battles and campaigns that took place from 1863-65.
It would be a great help if someone could find the quartermaster records for that battery. A copy of one of the photos of a battery member in a "CD" uniform can be seen at the Carter House Museum in Franklin TN. I can't remember that soldier's name right now, but I do remember he was wounded at Franklin. I believe the photo was taken sometime before that battle. Here's the URL to a photo of another battery member in a "CD" uniform:

Confederate uniform research is pretty much a "never ending story" what a unit wore on one campaign "aint necessarily" what they wore for the next. Artist Don Troiani in his painting of the battery in action at Kennesaw Mt. shows them in gray jackets with red collars. Mr. Troiani is very meticulous in his research.
