Yellow Trim

Yellow Dye was rare in the war, and in some cases a buff dye was available, but most Govt Issue uniforms didnt have any color trim at all, maybe piping on some of the Richmond Depot Jackets, BUT the big thing, especially with Wheeler and Forrest's Cav is that they were rarely around to be issued uniforms, many of them getting clothing made in the commands, sent from home, or taken from Civilians. Also the vast majority of images of CS Soldiers were taken in the early part of the war, and in some cases using studio props, so you cant really go by an 1861 or 1862 image of a soldier. The best thing for studying wartime images are the pics of CS POWs and they show some very interesting things.
