A picture of a hat made at Olmstead's Hat Factory can be seen in the book "Rebels and Yankees, The Commanders of the Civil War", Smithmark Press, 1991, page 163. It is a very light gray.

The only U of A cadet uniforms that I have seen have been in photos, which are black and white. I have one around here somewhere [computer image]. I'll see if I can locate it and tell anything about the color from the contrast.
