Hayes, What have been your findings as to the color of uniforms made at Tuscaloosa? I have seen an example at the Univ. of Ala. of the cadet uniform and is is of the blue-gray shade of "cadet gray". There is a shade refered to as "Tuscaloosa Gray" that is offered by modern day makers of reproduction uniforms that I describe as a gray with a dirty or brownish tint to it. There are reproduction uniforms refered to as "Alabama Depot" style that being a wool-cotton jeans cloth usually gray-butternut color with no trim. Are any or all of these historically correct? Please describe what you have found. Also, please describe the hat that was manufactured there. I remember reading that the hat factory was burned by the Yanks in April 1865.
