Jim J. GrayConfederate Unit HelpSun Mar 4 12:53:01 2001 I am looking for the unit that my gggrandfather was a member of in the state of Alabama. His name was James Guinn Yarbrough b-1827/d-1880. In 1860 he was living in Montgomery County, AL. I have a copy of the widow pension application that his wife Mahana Johnson Yarbrough filled out in 1879 in Texas. She did not know the unit or regt. that he was in but listed his service as 4 years in "Capt. Thomas Mitchell's Company which belonged to Col. Julius Mitchell's regiment in the state of Alabama." Looking through the Confederate List that Broadfoot publishes it shows a "Yarbrough, J.G. AL 31st Inf. Co. A 2nd Lt." this unit was formed in Montgomery Co. but I can't find anything for sure that shows that he is the one. It is the only listing for a J.G. Yarbrough. There are James's and J's Yarbrough's listed from Al units but I can't find a Col. Julius Mitchell Regt. nor can I find a muster roll that would list a J or a James or a J.G. Yarbrough. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to anyone that might have information that would prove his exact unit affliation.
