It's written that way more than onnce on the paper, but I think it's an error not unlike the one you described. It's highly unusual to have a single record on a company officer of an infantry unit like this, and that's all there is here, a May 1865 parole for 2nd Lt. J. G. Yarbrough. There are too many particulars on the pension that match the 34th Alabama for it to be wrong.
