Hugh RicksDeath at Fair Ground Hosp. 1862.Sat Mar 3 21:13:01 2001 My g-grandfather, Wiley Hales, and his twin brother, Wyatt, were both privates in Co. C of the 43 Ala. Infantry. They enlisted at Clinton, AL on Mar. 8, 1862. Family oral tradition has it that Wyatt died of pneumonia at Fair Ground Hosp. in Chattanooga, TN. The document pertaining to his death that I received from NARA is not complete, but it does give the date of death as Dec, 22, 1862, and the location as "Fair Ground Hospl". There is no mention of the cause of death or if the hospital was actually in Chattanooga. Wyatt was buried in the Confederate Cemetary at Knoxville, Tn. My question: Does anyone know of this hospital , and was it in Chattanooga? Where might I find a more complete record of the death of this Alabama soldier? Fairground Hospital J.
