Alan J. PittsAtlantaMon Mar 5 23:35:17 2001 If your ancestor belonged to the 38th Alabama and the dates are correct, I'd have to place him in Atlanta. The 38th Alabama belonged to Clayton's Brigade, which (along with the 36th Alabama) had attempted to hold Rossville Gap on Missionary Ridge against the advance of Hooker's Corps. Of course Bragg sholdn't have left his left wing so lightly defended and was forced off the ridge in one of the worst Confederate defeats of the war. This was a month before your ancestor died. At the time Knoxville was under Confederate seige, so he shouldn't have been there. The 38th Alabama was never anywhere near Knoxville. I'll check the service records in Birmingham so you won't have to wait in suspense. Atlanta Fairgrounds Hospital No.2 Barry N. Wyatt, Wed Mar 7 07:36 Thank you.. Barry N.
