As I mentioned earlier, Goldsby's unit was a local defense company that would've been active in late 1863-early 1864 for a six-month period. These men would've been exempts &c who often fit the qualifications for senior reserves drawn up in the law of Feb. 17, 1864. I don't have a clue as to why they were included in the microfilm for Barbiere. Barbiere's men were recruited under the reserve law after Goldsby's company went out of existence.

I'll have to ask Dr. Jones why he describes the 3rd Reserve Regiment as juniors. I'm firmly convinced otherwise. The seniors proved relatively unserviceable except for conscript and provost guard duties; juniors were left at Blakely and expected to fight with front-line units. I'd expect that seniors didn't respond well when exposed to the great outdoors around Mobile Bay.
