Jason McPhersonQuestions About Southerners Fighting for the NorthSun Feb 18 20:39:13 2001 Hello. I'm curious about Southerners who ended up fighting for the North. I've read that some Southerners went North and joined up with the Union troops. When this happened, were they just assigned to units randomly? Or were there Union units that were made up entirely of Southerners? Did the Northern-born Union soldiers react suspiciously toward the Southern-born Union loyalists? How did the Northern Army determine that these Southerners weren't spies? Were there any Southerners fighting for the North who became famous for doing so?Lastly, are there any good books out there on this specific subject of Southerners fighting for the North?Thank you,Jason McPhersonSoutherners fighting for the Union teco, Mon Feb 19 20:32 Southern men fighting for the North Dave Frederick, Mon Feb 19 16:42 Fighting for the North E.
