Mike Deason44th AlabamSat Feb 3 08:13:52 2001 According to Boyd, the first company (B, The Scottsville Guards) which would become part of the 44th arrived in Selma on April 9, 1862. The Regiment itself was formally organized by May 17. During this time and after they probably spent much of their time drilling (naturally, as any good soldier knows ) and on picket duty. A good number of them got sick and died as well. My 3rd Great Grandfather, John Columbus Deason, Co. B, contracted the measles in Selma and had to go back to Scottsville for a while (he later rejoined the regiment in Richmond). On June 17, 1862 they loaded up on railroad cars and headed off for Virginia, arriving just as the Seven Days was ending.Regards,Mike DeasonWright's Brigade Tim, Sat Feb 3 10:49 44th and the Seven Days Mike Deason, Mon Feb 5 03:13 kudos Alan Pitts, Mon Feb 5 11:21 Granpaw Tim, Mon Feb 5 10:12 Official Records, XI, part 2, page 981.
