Alan Pittsmy error.....Sun Feb 4 22:25:16 2001 Huger's report includes the following comment:"I ordered a battery of artillery, supported by the Forty-fourth Alabama Regiment, to protect the junction of the New road with the Charles City road, and directed Brigadier-General Wright to proceed at daylight June 30 down the New road to find the enemy and guard our left flank and the main body to proceed down the Charles City road."This would indicate that Colonel Kent's regiment had arrived in Richmond some days earlier. Evidently assigned to Huger's Division, it was directed to report to Huger somewhere east of the city. Since's Lee's army was in motion, it would've been difficult to predict the division's exact location. I'll check company and regimental records for the exact day. If I had to guess, I'd say it joined Huger on the 28th or 29th. Note that the Medical Director did not list the 44th Alabama with Wright's Brigade or any other command when he composed the final casualty list for the Seven Days. Note also that Wright's report, written on July 8th, mentions every regiment under his command, but says nothing about the 44th Alabama. That being the case, the 44th Alabama must've been assigned to Wright's Brigade after Malvern Hill. However, it was near enough the fighting to have heard the guns, and that supports your contention.
