Whoa! Is the ADAH 40th flag a fake?!

I just went and took another look at the 2nd flag of the 40th in the ADAH collection, and I was shocked at something that I noticed! The appliqued words are in sans serif typeface! This typeface was *not* in existence until after 1900! It is a product of the German Bauhaus design house. At least that is what is told in the history of typefaces (at an earlier time in life I was a Print Copy Chief, so I'm rather intimately knowledgeable in this area). The serif vs. sans serif typeface is used in dating all sorts of antiques.

I'm almost positive that the flag on eBay had a serif typeface. I think that I would have immediately noticed if it was otherwise. Could the eBay flag be the real flag of the 40th!?
