Dave NeelStill Yet Even More on the 40th's FlagsFri Jan 19 06:03:11 2001 Hayes:No, the Gulley flag is the original article, in Gulley's family's hands till placed in the archives, a dead-ringer, lettering and all for Dept. of Ala., Miss. and E. La. flags. Note also the wear pattern on the flag. Its fly side is frayed, clearly evidencing plenty of field use. As for the Central Florida connection, I know of at least one member of the 40th who ended up on the St. John's river after the war -- Hiram Smith Williams (This War So Horrible). I also seem to me that the ebay flag replicating the 20th's Johnston pattern 13 star battle flag was also out of Florida, but I am not certain -- I have a copy of that ---- somewhere ---- I think.....This is an exciting revelation!
