Hayes LoweThis is an exciting revelation!Fri Jan 19 07:03:01 2001 If all these flags have sanserif typefaces, that means that the entire antique community will have to revise its dating techniques. Literally tens of thousands of items have been declared as fake based on this one attribute! It also means that the history books will need to be revised, as well.I have only a history minor (but probably actually have enough credits for a at least a B.A.), but my course concentrations were in three areas: Vietnam history, American history, and German history. In the German history courses you really only study two aspects of their history. You study the military history and the design/build history. A major portion of the study is always on the Bauhaus, and one of its most major claims to fame is on the creation of sanserif typeface. If these flags have sanserif typefaces, then this typeface predate the Bauhaus' existence by about forty years! And, they may show that the Confederacy was the actual "inventor" of sanserif! On a personal side, this is exciting news for me, too. I own a Confederate Bowie knife. On its blade is "Selma Arsenal", written in sanserif type. I have thought that it was a fake, based on the typeface. Now, I find that I can't make that determination on that point alone, and it may be original!Hayessans serif and flags/knives William Alford, Sat Jan 20 23:08 Sans serif Hayes Lowe, Wed Jan 24 06:39 40TH Ala.
