Company I, "Roanoke Grays," 28th Virginia lists Privates Paul and William Schoonover on the roll. Perhaps William was a brother or other relative. A muster roll and casualty description can be found in Southern Historical Society Papers, vol. 24 (1896), pp. 291-294 -- Paul is listed as a recruit. The latter roll was compiled by A. H. Roller at Mount Meridian, Virginia in 1896, with the assistance of Hon. H. S. Trout. A flag of the regiment that was captured at Gettysburg can be seen at the Minnesota Historical Society in Minneapolis.
