To further this discussion: I ran across some local records that indicated that up to 40 families of veterans of the 28th settled near the town of Ladoga ( near the previously mentioned cemetery) after the war. That is a beautiful little town to this day. I think that there is a good story here. The area was in general settled by folks from KY. in the previous generation and had "butternut" sympathies during the war.
