Mr. Proctor, My g grandfather was George A. Houpt, 28th Virginia Infantry Company G. His wife, my g grandmother was Susannah Wingert. Before the war they lived in Bedford (Liberty) County Va. My g grandmother's brother was Jacob Wingert 28th Virginia Infantry Company A. Both my g grandfather and Uncle Jacob were mustered in at Bedford.

To your question. I can confirm the Wingert family did indeed move to Ladoga after the war. According to family records Henry Wingert, father of Susannah moved to Ladoga in 1867. I have family "tin type" photographs of these folks. Several of these have the photographer name and "Ladoga, IND" on the backside. I would be happy share our family photographs if there was an interest.

I am not sure of the reason they moved Ladoga. I do know they belong to the Dunkard church and that may have had to do with the move. ?
