Thanks very much for the information re Henry Clay Rowe. I did find him in the VMI online archives, as well as Thomas Rowe Thornton. This more than likely accounts for H. C.'s absence on the 1860 census. He was unknown to me until recently....didnt know my g. g. grandfather even had a half brother. I'll look for the books you mentioned. May find them at the Dallas Public Library. Thanks again for your help.
