The "Kelly's Farm" battle honors on the 50th Va flag reclect the battle at Kelly's Store, about nine miles from Suffolk, Va., that was fought on 30 Janaury 1863. Union forces made a surprise night attack on the unsuspecting Confederates, commanded by Roger Pryor. The Confederates retreated from the field. Unofficially, the 50th reported 19 killed wounded and missing. I could document 4 killed, six wounded and two missing in action for the 50th. Among the killed was Col. Thomas Poage, the 50th's commander.
