You might contact the Texas State Archives and request the military file #195 for TH Clay. " Texas Confederate Audited Civil and Military Claims 1861-1865." The state of Texas had to pay all of its soldiers for state service and the records were preserved. Clay's file may just be only his name and signature included in a muster roll of his company requesting payment or it may be something even more interesting. You never know until you get the file. They only charge a few dollars depending on the number of documents in the file. Regardless Clay would have received a Texas State Warrant issued in his name for the amount of pay due him by the State of Texas.
