I have record of Joe Shockler in Company "I" Likens' 35th Texas Cavalry (not Brown's 35th) in The Civil War Records of Cherokee County, Texas Volume 1 page 34 by Ogreta W. Huttash.

Muster rolls for Likens' Regt are not on file at the Texas, nor National Archives.

Both 35th Texas Cavalry regiments served along the Texas Coast so I am 100% sure the records got mixed-up and could site numerous examples of men who served in Likens' 35th but appear on the National Archives file cards under "Brown's 35th".

In February a book will be released by Hill College titled "The Letters of Louis Lehmann". These letters were found in Germany and have been transcribed. The letters deal with Likens Regt on the coast and in other places. I was fortuinate to be called to serve as a researcher for this soon-to-be -released book. Please look for a copy as it will provide insight into the actions of your ancestor. BTW, Louis Lehmann is only listed on the National Archives file cards as a member of "Browns 35th" and like your ancestor he was a cook.

I will send you some additional information about Likens' 35th as soon as I get the chance. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to send you some photos from a campsite in Matagorda County that I just visited.
