The Texas in the Civil War Message Board

J.T. Fisher, Commissary of Subsistence, Dallas

George Martin, Bruce Allardice, and Ken Martin,
.
Thank you for the "A.C.S. in Dallas" information. ..Most was news to me and will be included in the next edition of my book, esp. George Martin's info that will be added to my bibliography.
.
EMBARRASSED. ..Please know how embarrassed I am that I already had some of this info that my Sunday, 25 January 2009, 9:13 pm posting did NOT reflect. ..Guess I was tired since I answer e-mails at the end of "my day" or maybe I'm just losing it. ..(I work until I get tired, sleep, then get up and work again, and yes, daylight is meaningless.) ..I'm trying to get the next edition to the printer plus my husband went to the emergency room twice in the past few days .. plus I had to get a new computer Christmas week: ..my computer guy insisted that I get a new XP computer or none of my softwares (including my book) would translate to VISTA. ..(I'd rather change husbands than softwares ... all of my data, including my book, is in Microsoft Publisher 1997 PLUS I have scores of family sheets that were typed into "WordPerfect 6.0 for DOS" format. ..By the way, my direct ancestors lived all along Red River from Texarkana to Childress, and all eight of my g-gfathers lived here in Stephens Co OK. ..To see my direct ancestors, see

Yes, this gray-haired lady would shoot Bill Gates, and his ilk, on sight for this and other changes.
.
I must quickly state that I was thrilled when I learned that our webmaster, Jim Martin, arranged for the postings of both the Texas and Indian Territory message boards to be sent via e-mail, because the last time I was preparing for press, I did not click onto either message board for months. ..Well, this time, maybe I should simply keep his e-mails and answer later, but I haven't.
.
Below are my Name Index entries that have been on my website for years. ..A major theme of my book is "starvation" so I scrupously indexed everything related to subsistence, save the "John T. Fisher, ACS" entries that I indexed immediately after I typed the Bourland's Regt. info. ..I habitually indexed entries immediatley after a batch, such as a militia listing. ..After that I typed THE BOURLAND PAPERS and the 240 North Texas militia listings, both of which took months. ..This is no excuse, but that was the secquence of my work. ..Oops, this was one entry that I did not remember to change. ... Managing a 1,046-page book is several orders of magnitude greater than a 400-page book. ... The scope of my book was determined by THE BOURLAND PAPERS.
