Re: 51st Virginia Miliita at Fort Donelson?

Hi Greg, no we met at the archives near the State Captiol a few years ago, you and I would both looking up records and if my memory is correct you were working on flags for a unit.

Per Captain James H. Willis of the 51st Virginia Militia he has on his CMSR's three seperate places of capture. LOL One is Fredericksburg, VA where according to the records he deserted and turned himself in to Union forces. Another is listing him being captured in Frederick County VA which might make more sense as the 51st Va. Militia was from Frederick County, VA and the other citation is that he was captured on Feb. 16, 1862 at Fort Donelson. He may have arrived at the same time as some of the Fort Donelson prisoners but as stated I did not see him on the prisoner list from Donelson. All of these captures happened in early 1862 so only one I am assuming is correct.

I do have the complete list of all Confederates who were arrested at Fort Donelson and came to Camp Chase. As you know many of the junior officers and a few enlisted would be transferred to Johnson's Island in late April of 62 from Chase.
