Jacob and Isaac were brothers. Isaac was about four years older than Jacob and enlisted before him. I do not know if it is a matter of reporting error or fact but family oral history is that they both returned home to Lincoln/Franklin County line in the Hurdlow/Marble Hill Community area at the same time just before the Battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge in November 1863. Charles Robert Higginbotham, son of Jacob, born 1873 was still living when I was a child and was the source of the family version of the story.
