Records I examined at Chickamauga National Military Park this weekend show him honorably discharged and paroled when the 41st was disbanded at the end of the war in 1865. This would suggest that he returned to duty. This is consistent with the story as told to me by my Grandmother Thelma Higginbotham Cunningham.
