Thanks for the information on Peter. I've copied his file and also that of, I believe, a brother. Looks like they both had trouble with the authorities.

I could not locate any of the other Political Prisoners you forwarded me. I also tried to scan the Knoxville Brownlow Whig and his Rebel Ventilator for information. Unfortunately, the papers for the time in question are missing on the microfilm roll. I believe that would be the time Brownlow was in exile.

Peter V. Folan/Foland, Private, Company F, 9th Regiment Tennessee Cavalry, U. S. A., enlisted September 15, 1863 at Panther Springs, Tenn. by W. S. Fletcher for 3 years, recorded on the February 29, 1864 muster roll as deserted** on or about the 15th day of November, 1863, at Knoxville, Tenn, confined at Knoxville February 5, 1864 and released the same day, recorded present on the Mar. & Apr., 1864 muster roll as "Federal Prisoner," captured by Confederates at Mossy Creek Tenn., November 14, 1864, confined at Danville, Va., February 12, 1865, confined at Richmond, Va., February 20, paroled at James River, Va., February 22, 1865, sent to Camp Chase, Ohio prison camp February 26, arriving March 4, released March 12, promoted Corporal May 5, 1865, mustered out at Knoxville of September 11, 1865*

* Description: age 18, 5' 6", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, born in Scott County, Va.

** Adjutant General's Office, July 8th, 1885, Washington "The charge of desertion of Nov. 5 (or 15th) 1863 against this man is removed.
